Summer Program is a very busy and active time. The children get to participate in many different activities on a daily basis. Some of the activities are:

  • Offsites- this is were a group of children and staff will walk to a location close by to the school and do a specific activity. For example: Westminster group would walk to Galbraith school and have a dinosaur dig in the sandbox. These happen daily and usually in the mornings.
  • Swimming- the groups will have the opportunity to go swimming at a nearby pool on a weekly basis. Westminster goes to Westminster Pool. St. Marthas goes to Nicholas Sheran Pool.
  • Spirit Days- on these days the staff and children will dress up according to the theme for the week. For example: favorite superstar- could be sports athlete, singer or superhero.
  • Special Events- during the Summer we have 2 Special Event Days. In July the groups go to Pavan Park for the day. In August the groups will go to the Parade and then down to the Elks Compound for the rest of the day.
  • Giant Slip n Slide- we set up the Sugar Bowl as a Giant Slip n Slide and the staff and children get to go down the hill. There are also other activities set up for the children to participate in on this day ie: giant soccer ball, parachute etc…
  • Community Wednesdays- we schedule different groups to come in from the Community to share their talents or teach the children about their organization or culture. Some groups from the past are: Native Drummers, Birds of Prey Center, Kayaking, Rugby etc…

During the Summer we also offer a program specifically for the older children, called Sr. Blasters. The Sr. Blaster Program was developed to offer high activity, developmentally appropriate programming for the pre-teen age group, separate from the younger children. This Program is designed to incorporate, Junior Leadership Opportunities for children the older children. Goals of this program are to empower/encourage these children to work with the younger children in junior leadership roles as positive role models. With this greater responsibility, the group then gains more freedom and choice in their activities, during their time.
